The survey

Book a free site visit

We read the slab before anyone prices it. Three humidity probes go into the concrete at 40 % of its depth and stay in for 72 hours, and nothing gets specified or quoted until they come out. There is no charge for the visit, and the reading is yours whether or not you use us.

What happens at the visit

  1. We drill and set the probes

Three humidity probes into the slab at 40 % of its depth. That depth is the whole point: a surface reading tells you what the weather did last week, not what the concrete is going to push up into the coating for the next ten years.

  2. We measure everything else while we are there

The room, the falls, the cracks, and where the nearest socket and tap are. Then we ask what the floor is going to have to survive: hot tyres, a pallet truck, a mop and a drain, bare feet. That last answer moves the specification more than anything else we write down.

  3. We come back and read them

Seventy-two hours later, which makes this two trips rather than one. The number that comes out decides the primer, and on a bad slab it decides whether there is a floor to lay at all this month.

What you leave with

  • A moisture reading for your slab, in writing, which is yours to keep and to show another contractor.
  • The system that reading and that room actually call for, and the reason it is that one and not a cheaper one.
  • The number. Priced after the survey, never before it.
